Major renovation and construction work completed on tram depot 5
Most of the construction and renovation work for the new tram depot 5 has been completed. Overall, the project is going according to schedule. Construction work is expected to be fully completed in the first half of next year.
The building structures have been fully completed in all depot buildings, walls and partitions have been built, and windows, doors, and gates have been installed. In most buildings, floor finishing works have been completed and air conditioning systems have been fully installed.
The construction of rail tracks and power supply networks has been fully completed in the territory, the construction of rail track heating and automation systems is nearing completion, and the construction of water supply and electrical networks is also almost complete. Construction of the compressor station is continuing and is currently 75% complete.
The construction of the roof structure, facade finishing and restoration work is in its final stages, reaching a completion level of up to 97% in some buildings. Similarly, the installation of heating, sewage and ventilation networks is nearing completion in most of the buildings. The installation and connection of technological equipment, the construction of electrical and electronic communications networks, as well as the finishing of walls and ceilings are currently continuing actively.
"We can see that work on the depot territory is progressing according to schedule and significant progress has already been made. This project is an important step in the creation of a modern tram infrastructure that will improve both the quality of public transport and the working conditions of employees," says Jānis Golubevs, Board Member of Rīgas satiksme.

The new tram depot 5 is part of a broader public transport modernisation programme in Riga, which aims to develop a sustainable and modern urban mobility system. To remind you, on 18 February this year, a rafter celebration was held at the depot 5. The total cost of the new building and the reconstruction of the historic building is approximately EUR 32 million.
The construction design of the tram depot 5 building is done by Rūpnīcprojekts AS, the construction supervision is carried out by SIA Geo Consultants. The contractor awarded the public procurement procedure is SIA Aimasa and the contract for the works was signed on 21 September 2023. Construction is proceeding according to schedule, and work is expected to be completed early next year.
Similarly, at tram depot 5, a project is being implemented to install solar panels on one of the buildings in the territory, which will allow solar energy to be obtained for everyday needs. The project “Increased use of renewable energy – construction of a solar power plant at Brīvības iela 191, Riga” is financially supported by the Emission Allowance Auction Instrument.
